Technology Disasters ?!

I was setting the voice recognition password of my Mobil.

A dog barked and run away.

I’m still looking for that dog to unlock my Mobile.

Is it a Technology Disasters ?!

According to Wikipedia – a disaster is a serious disruption occurring over a short or long period that causes widespread human, material, economic or environmental loss which exceeds the ability of the affected community or society to cope using its own resources.

Disasters are routinely divided into natural or human-made.

Earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, landslides, hurricanes, wildfires, droughts, and volcanic eruptions are some examples of natural disasters. Such disasters cause massive loss of life, property, and many other miseries.

Human-instigated disasters are the consequence of technological or human hazards. Examples include stampedes, fires, transport accidents, industrial accidents, oil spills, terrorist attacks, etc.

What about COVID-19 pandemic? It can affect natural disaster preparedness and recovery. And more?

A report on MIT Technology Review (2020/12/31) titled “The biggest technology failures of 2020”, reported that the covid pandemic made year 2020 we counted on technology more than ever, yet how it failed us?!

Technology and social innovation intended to overcome the negatives of the digital age will likely cause additional negative consequences.

Recently there are more discussions and shared concerns about the likely future of social and civic innovation.

One said that technology causes more problems than it solves. Other said it is likely that emerging worries over the impact of digital life will be at least somewhat mitigated as humans adapt. Also, some said it is possible that any remedies may create a new set of challenges. Others said humans’ uses and abuses of digital technologies are causing societal harms that are not likely to be overcome.

Technology will obviously result in civic innovation. The real question is whether the innovation will result in better societal outcomes.

To Your Success,
